Thank you
thank you for a most enjoyable event! Jessie and I never had so much fun
running! (She just complained that I was too slow!)
It was so well organized, and I was amazed by your calmness amid all the
yapping and flying fur! Jessie was
impressed by the goody bag! Hope we
can do it again. - Etienne
& Jessie Roux, 1st time competitor)
You do an
amazing job with that race! I don't know how you do it every year! You are
really amazing! Max and I had so much fun and it really was a great bonding
experience. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I had to laugh cause Max decided to defecate
right at the beginning of the race at the end of the starting line! We were
making good time running across the field and then oh boy, my Max decided to
stop right in front of Linda and do his business. It was too funny. Linda saw
it. It was really runny too, but I won't go into those details!!!! (-:
Dr. Brody is a wonderful man. I want to go and see him
and would love for him to come again at a MARDog Public Meeting.... He treated
Rachel King's Roman who had a slight cut by his right eye... Dr. Brody said he'd
be fine... Just put some neosporin.
I don't
know how you do it... So much mayhem and so much control!
What a fantastic happy energizing day! THANK YOU!!! Best,
Alison Deeb, race participant and President of MARDOG
John, Arch and I had a great time at the race. Thank
you for holding such a great event! Chris
Bye 1st shelter adoptee (2nd woman over the line)
I see that there are some on-going adjustments for final
placements from the race this past Saturday. I just wanted to make sure
that the results for Dakota (siberian husky) and I were not included in the
final list. I made a decision to disqualify us at the 2 mile check point
near the pond and took the short cut back. Dakota wasn’t quite one
hundred percent. Dakota seemed
more tired than normal and I started to worry a bit about the rocks and roots on
the path around the pond. Being the protective "mom" I am, I
figured better safe than sorry. Our race number was 71, however, I gave it
to the race official and we crossed the finish line without a number at around
34 minutes.
Thanks again for doing such a wonderful job with the race.!
All your hard work is greatly appreciated and that we always have the best time
at the race. We are already looking forward to next year
Michele Kraweak and Dakota (Note:
this is a caring owner that aborted their run when she felt her dog
wasn’t 100%)
My story
is simple: I volunteer at this event because you do such a great job!
It's so gratifying to be a part -- albeit a teensy tiny part -- of Hounds
and Harriers. I always have such a nice time -- and I will be back!
Many thanks for all you do. Hope Benita's pix turn out well. And hope
you're pleased with the bottom line. I know St. H's always is. Carolyn Curry was
raving about how much $ you've raised thru H&H. Lots of kudos.
Everyone I saw was having fun WITH their dogs.
And I had a lovely time -- thanks for arranging the fabulous weather
again! Cheers! Sherry

I made a boy wearing #xxx go back and pick up his dog's poop.
He didn't seem too happy about it but he did it. (I would have picked it
up but I already picked up someone else’s and I caught him in the act).
The Prebenda’s are such a good family. It’s really
neat to see Stargazer come back each year. Even as a veteran now.
As in the past, it was a great event. Its at the
perfect time of year. It is so well run.
When it was all over this year, Robin and I looked at each other ... and
said 365 days until the next H&H ... its almost like the Christmas let down.
We look forward to it every year. Susan
Dawson
I
would have to agree with Sue Dawson's comments.....It is a big let
down.....I start
thinking about the race early in the summer, and it
definitely drives my
training...Now we have to wait nearly a year for it to
happen again.....I
did make a point to get to race earlier this year to get
the full experience.
I had more time to chat with people and observe all the
excitement. Many
thanks again. Mark
DePiano
I feel
really bad we missed the race on Saturday. I came down with a pretty bad cold on
Thursday and was out of work on Thursday and Friday. I suppose the fever had
weakened me because I was pretty much bed ridden until Sunday. I hope everyone
had a wonderful day. I just feel bad for "Luna" who I know would have
really enjoyed it. I couldn't find a replacement runner in time otherwise I
would have sent her off with them so she could enjoy her special
"doggy" day.
I look
forward to next year's run. If your group organizes any other special doggy
events between now and then please let me know. Luna is such a wonderful
puppy she deserves such spoils.
By the
way, "Luna" wishes to donate her goody bag to shelter.
Diane Pedrazzo
Mookie and I had so much fun running. It was very
nice to contribute for a very special cause. We hope to donate more time
and do good for all those beautiful animals at St. Huberts. THANK
YOU! Mookie and Jenny Yanko
Thanks for
a great race - it was especially sentimental since Rudy almost died from a pit
bull attack last November. He still runs like a champ at age 12!
Ann Moorhead
I met you
at the Spring MARDOG meeting. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for a great
race this past Saturday. Brody and I had a great race and a really FUN
day. I found myself laughing out loud several times during the run as we
passed, or were passed by, funny dogs towing their owners or owners towing their
dogs! The whole scene was just hilarious!! I look forward to running
with you again next year. The goody bag was fantastic - great job.
Many Thanks! Stephen Neville
I just wanted to say thank you again for the great
event on Saturday. Hounds and Harriers is by far my favorite event of the
year, and I know Tucker enjoys it immensely. I has planned to be paired
with Tucker, but after discussing our dog/people physical conditions, we made
last minute changes. So Brian walked/jogged with Tucker this year, and
they had a great time. Buddy and I were a good match age and condition
wise, and while he towed me initially, we evened out after mile one.
Thanks so much for all your hard work, and special thanks to all the volunteers
and those who donated their services that day.
It was a bit warm once you got moving, and Buddy, I know, appreciated all
the water stops. Thanks again Barb. Karen Fox, 8 time competitor
Great
job on this wonderful event! Its
good to see we cracked the top 100, despite the late start.
We could easily go Top 50 if we started on time and top 25 if Moose would
run straight. Daryl Brewster, President
of Nabisco and late arriving participant
A great
big thank you once again !!!!!! Truly one of the highlights of the year and
certainly my running highlight of the year !
I was happy to see how good Dillon did.
I thought he would push too hard and burn out, but he was strong
thru-out. He was a little wild early but settled in good.
For some reason he picked it up a notch when we got onto the trails.
We were able to run down the 2nd place women who ran very well. She had
about 50 yards on us, and with Dillon’s pace, we were able slowly catch up.
I may have actually done the last mile quicker than the first 2, which
usually doesn't happen. Dillon was a
little naughty though. We kept
picking fights with other dogs (only bigger dogs....and I thought BC’s were
smart) as we stood for the awards. I had to shorten up on his leash.
I am hurting real bad.....no running for a couple weeks. Mark DePiano,
8 time competitor
We had a
great time- thanks for everything- My 5 year old wants to start practicing with
her dog for next year's race- we shall see- Thanks again for a great event- we
had a great time and really enjoyed seeing all the dogs race- Let me know about
next year- we will definitely sponsor and maybe even can help the day of.
Thanks. Jennifer Mahoney, Happy Tails, Inc
You did a great
job as always. It’s fun being with others who love being with dogs.
It really was a good day for the run cause it was not to hot and most of the
dogs were panting but none looked in distress to my untrained eye. Those
that came at the end were even laughing saying their dogs did not want to run or
were enjoying the scenery instead of running and took it with a grain of salt.
Hope to see you again next year. Beth Berger, final marshal
Thank you
again for running a fantastic event! Ivan had a blast! I
think I can speak for him in saying that the biscuits at the finish were GREAT!
It was really great to get to run Ivan with other dogs as he
really seems to enjoy it. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to
meet you in person, but hopefully we'll get a chance to do so next year.
Evelyn Conrad
Karma was definitely more
tired than I've ever seen her. She just can't run that fast for that long
anymore, but she doesn't know how to run slow. If only she knew how to pace
herself. Too bad she's a dog! Seriously, she won't be running with me again, and
I'm not sure whether or not I could find the heart to do it without her.
My dad thinks he could run with her, but I think she'd wrestle him the whole
way. She hates being in the pack (like her owner).
My dad thinks I could take one of the younger dogs, but I'm hesitant to
run fast with a dog I don't know well or haven't really tested out running fast.
The jury's still out. So it's definitely Karma's last race, but I'm not sure yet
whether it's mine.
Bonnie was awesome! She said
last year she ran with her 5 yr old lab that slowed her down. Thanks again for
the hard work you do. It was a great event. David Panush, winner 2000-2004
I wanted
to let you know that my niece Tara and my nephew Brian had a great time.
My niece Tara is a dog lover and was so excited to see all the different dogs.
She's 6 and has memorized most breeds. They also loved the goody bag.
You should have seen their excitement when the runners and the dogs were
coming around the bend! I'm sure having an '"official race
orange vest" was an experience they will never forget.
Joe was so
nice and encouraging to the kids. Thank you for the opportunity for
them to participate in such a great race. You do an excellent job each
year and it keeps getting better. It was a nice day for a good
workout, for both dogs and owners. Thank you also for the generous
donations to help dogs. Bravo! Thanks
also for the nice quality t-shirt! Kathleen
McKernan,
Congratulations
and Thank you for another successful race this year. Everything was well
organized, and we all had fun. Thank
you! Franz Mitterer
First time
and we had so much fun!!! Thanks and see you in the woods!! Rob Fairbrother
and Maggie
Just wanted to say Lucy and I had a really great time... my
other dog Charlie (who is a pudgy beagle and isn't a runner) also had a great
time just watching! Both of my parents came and had a blast watching all
of the animals. Although, as you mentioned, there were a few rough spots,
99% of the dogs (and owners!) we met were really great; we had a wonderful time.
The treats from the bag are being enjoyed by the dogs and the human treats by my
family and me!. Please let me know if you would like some volunteering in
the future... I (and Lucy) would love to be involved!
Jill Sanders
I am so
sorry I missed the race. I found out on Friday that I had Strep throat.
It is so nice of you to hold the race packet and goody bag for us. Thanks
again. Margaret Rooney
Thanks for
your continued efforts. You are a saint!
Jenny Deery (scorekeeper)
I know you
work hard at making Hounds and Harriers a successful event and one bad incident
would spoil it for everyone. It is the highlight of our running life and I
truly enjoy it each year. Thanks for all your hard work. Even my
non-doggie friend who ran with Roman thought it was a blast.
Rachel King, Mocha & Roman
OH MY GOD!
WHAT A BLAST! I especially love that red dog up front! (see web photo,
results) What are the times like? Everyone looks like a super-charged runner. I
go about 9-10 minute miles. Would I be trailing in long after everyone else was
home? I think I gotta do this event next year!
Mara Bovsun, NYC Animal Haven Shelter, Queens
I just
wanted you to know what a wonderful day Pepper and I had! It was a blast! You
did a great job. We were so happy that we didn't miss it this year. We are
already planning for next years race and how we will train for it.
Thanks again for a great day, Jane Weeks
Once
again, congratulations on a terrific event!!! I don't know how you do it
all. Bandit and I enjoyed it and intend to particpate again next year.
Regards, Carl
Deddens and Bandit
Just so
you know, Bosco and I did the 'big dog' run, we only went 1 mile, then cut
through back through Loantaka, as I felt that Bosco was feeling the heat and
humidity. He was thrilled and we had
a bunch of bones to snack on! Thanks so much for keeping out the t-shirt
and goody bag for us, we are both enjoying it, and he feels like a winner!!
Thanks again for all your hard work on this event.
Maybe next year he'll be in better shape, but if anything, we'll
participate in the 'paws from the past'. Thanks,
Tracey Swenson,
winner H&H 1998
As
always congrats on a job well done. I cannot begin to tell you what a kick
Lindsay (age 3) got out of seeing the runners and the dogs together at the
corner we marshal. She will be volunteer when the next generation of
members is doing the race. All the
best, Craig
Osten, course marshal, former director Giralda Farms Run
Thanks so
much for taking the time and effort to send me the packet,t-shirt,bandana,
etc..On that day I was in NYC running for my Company's Team that was
invited by JP Morgan/Chase Corporate Challenge Final on Park Ave.The invitation
came late and could not fine anybody to take my place to run wirh Sasha, we
trained pretty good and looked forward to compete and meet you up there. Oh !..
well , I'm sure Sasha was very disappointed, I promised her that next
year we will not miss the race. Bob
Chavez (first miss in 8 years….and Bob was mistaken…the Chase race was a
week earlier.)
I wanted
to thank you and all the volunteers that made this year's Hounds and Harrier
race a great success and a wonderful race to run. I had a great time and I
know that my dog (Basil) also enjoyed it. I know how much hard work and
time you must spend to make this race a success and I wanted to let you
know that all that hard work did pay off - The race was a smashing success!!
The Hounds and Harrier race is more enjoyable than a "people
only" race! Thanks again.

Subject:
A million thanks for all you do!
I
can't let another day go by without dropping you a note of thanks and
appreciation on behalf of the Prebenda human/canine clan. Congratulations on yet
another wonderful day at the races! You
make the event such a bright and festive occasion for families and their beloved
dogs. As always, you display an
amazing combination of professionalism and warmth as you put your fine
organizational and presentation skills to task.
And through it all, you possess such a welcoming demeanor and strong
personal interest in those who participate in your annual Hounds and Harriers
Run. You are quite remarkable.
Again, we wish to thank you
for providing us with such an enjoyable activity each Autumn.
You know, I'm not sure I've ever mentioned that our most notable family
athletic endeavor is actually swimming: Each
one of us has been competitive in the pool at one point or another(except
3-year-old Collin!). But the best
thing about your October race is that it gets us out of the pool and onto the
trails with our canine companions. We
owe you much gratitude for giving us a reason to get outside, enjoy the crisp
fall air and the changing leaves, and above all to bond and train with our
deserving furry friends. As you no
doubt have experienced, it is hard to describe the gratification one feels after
an invigorating trail run and that sense of shared accomplishment with that
special companion animal. Indeed, it
is a wonderful regiment we engage in with our dogs during the weeks leading up
to your race. Thanks for giving us
all a reason to get up and go!
I
must say, I loved reading some of the quotes you sent out from various
participants in the race. I too have
always found the occasion to be entirely entertaining.
Each time I have left the starting line, I am overcome with the magic of
that moment in the race: Dogs
bursting with anticipation, bounding in all directions, their enthusiasm
unchecked, while owners are trying desperately to restrain them and smiling
irrepressibly at the pure comedy of it all!
Unable to suppress my own laughter, I find I can only ignore the notion
of "competition" as we hop, skip, and jump down the field behind
exuberant dogs of every shape, color, size, and origin.
What an absolute riot!! It
really is magical.
We
really enjoy the messages you send out, and the special remarks you share
regarding your own observations and interactions with various dogs and their
running companions. It was
especially warming to read your thoughtful tribute to Stargazer and her new,
young companion in the "Paws from the Past" event.
You
do such a fine job of celebrating all that is healthy, wholesome and wonderful
about owning and interacting with our dogs.
I, for one, would never want to see anything else, especially on such a
beautiful occasion as your Hounds and Harriers Run.
You represent such a fine example to us all with regard to the
responsible, sensitive, supportive, fun-loving side of owning/training a dog.
And you manage this without ever appearing condescending or critical.
It is only warmth and welcome that you project to the lucky beneficiaries
around you. Again, thank you for
setting such a high standard, and for alerting us to those attitudes/behaviors
which are unacceptable. Due to your
own convictions, and your willingness to stand by these, this fine event will
remain the positive, joyful, and rewarding occasion it was meant to be
throughout the years ahead. We are
grateful.
Thanks
again for everything. Sincerely, Shelley and the entire Prebenda kid-and-canine clan!
Wow,
what a nice letter! (referring to Shelly Prebenda’s letter above).
You deserve the credit, as you put your heart and soul into the race and
its preparation. I want to personally thank you again for your contribution to
I'm
sure you have gotten many notes of congrats and admiration as I'm sure many
people share Shelly's sentiments. Your
professional stance coupled with your heartwarming concern for the animals is
truly a blessing for all.St. Hubert's continues to be pleased and proud to have
this association with Hounds and Harriers. Best regards,
Elizabeth McCorkle, President St Hubert’s
What a
great event, run by a special person. Thank
you Barb!!! Glen Fleischer former VP over Milk Bone who helped me get the
whole thing going 8 years ago! We
should all thank Glen!!!
Tusen takk for T-skjorten fra lopet ditt. (thank you so much for the T-shirt from your race). I liked the design a lot -- Ha det bra, Hilsen Grete Waitz (9 time winner NYC Marathon, 5 time World Cross Country Champion, former World Record holder 3,000 meters and Marathon and Barb Rushman’s pen pal).
Another
outstanding job this year. Cheryl
Maccaroni, winner of Hounds and Harriers Run 1999-2000 and founder/director
Tails and Trails Run
Thanks,
Spiro was a bit slow this year, he lagged behind me most of the race. Have
a Basset hound rescue that probably would have run faster, my daughter ran with
her in the Tails N Trails and she couldn't keep up. People told her it was the
fastest Basset they ever saw. She was a spectator at your race but I will
try and get both in the race next year. Its always great fun. Sincerely, Ron
Stott
Thanks for a great race. Scout and I improved our time from last year. Great fun. Chris Buck
